Guide to make household equipment more lasting

How many Home equipment do you use per day? Probably much more than you think. Of course, these devices consume a lot of energy and therefore require regular maintenance. Not only because you prevent a high energy bill, but also because the devices last longer. So you have more fun and it is also better for the environment. Here are a few tips to make sure that you do longer with your household equipment.

Maintain your washing machine

Does your washing machine have a stale air? Annoying, because sometimes your clothes can smell like this too! The cause is often residual soap residues with fungi in them. Usually they are behind the rubber ring of the washing machine opening. Sounds dirty, but fortunately there are a few things you can do before you have to call in a washing machine specialist. Turn a towel wash (or an empty drum) once to 95 degrees. This destroys many leftovers. In the sequel, you can put some cleaning vinegar into the fabric softener tray once a month and have it washed. No worries, you were not going to smell vinegar, but the acid makes the drum nice and clean. You can also use powder detergent instead of liquid, because it ‘saponifies’ less quickly.

Enjoy your coffee longer

Your super-de-lux espresso machine deserves to be well maintained. Then you will last much longer and the coffee will continue to taste good. Every day just removing the coffee spit and occasionally descaling is the motto. Fake Grass Installation by ASAG

Defrost the refrigerator

Your fridge only needs a soapy water every now and then, right? Miss! Defrosting from time to time is essential to keep enjoying your fridge as long as possible. Because if parts in the fridge or freezer are frozen, it consumes more energy and the lifespan is ultimately shorter. Many modern fridge-freezer combinations have a ‘no-frost’ system, so you do not have to thaw the refrigerator manually. Does not your refrigerator have that? Here are a few tips:

  • Put a pan with hot water in the fridge / freezer so that the ice will thaw faster.
  • Or use a hair dryer! Then you will be ready quickly.
  • Do not forget to put some old towels or sheets for the fridge to save your floor.
  • Do not forget to turn off the refrigerator or freezer first.

After defrosting, you can coat the cooling elements with a little glycerin (available from the chemist). This ensures that they freeze less quickly.

Do not put them on standby

Turn off devices that are usually on standby. This not only saves money on the energy bill, but also extends the life of the devices.

Choose energy efficient

Do you have to purchase a new device? See if you can choose the version with the highest energy label. For example A or A +++. This saves you both a lot on your energy bill and it is better for the environment.
